A range of elements are requestable including zinc, copper, aluminium, arsenic, iron, mercury, calcium, phosphorous and lead. The test involves taking an aliquot of sample and analysing it through the ICP-MS (inductively coupled plasma – mass spectrometry).
The test for iodine involves a simple alkaline digestion of the milk or dairy product before being analysed by the ICP-MS.
The method detects both organically bound iodide and as well free iodide salts.
