Inhibitory Substances

Inhibitory substances testing is an important part of any testing regime. Samples are tested to ensure there are no inhibitors such as antibiotics (for example penicillin and cloxacillin) which may be used in the treatment of animals.  These substances are monitored in milk and products used for human consumption.

The test is a simple inhibition assay and only requires a small amount of sample to be added to a well of a 96-well plate. Positives are determined by assessing the colour of the well the sample was added to. Any detected positives can be further analysed using LC-MS which quantifies and identifies specific antibiotics.
